Dark Hours is by a college friend. The story of the escapee who killed the high schooler happened when we were students. It was a fearful time. Many of the college descriptions match our alma mater. Sidney did a great job of taking a story, a setting he was familiar with and adding more storylines to it and modernizing it. (No cell phones back in the day. We were still using typewriters my first year in journalism there.) if you like suspense, this is a good one.Product details

Dark Hours is a relatively short novel but packs a lot of tension and atmosphere into its space—and adds a good amount of action. I would classify it as a horror/thriller. It does a good job of combining the best attributes of both these genres.
Allison Rose is a student journalist at Pine College, a small school that has seen better days. An escaped killer is suspected of hiding out on the campus, where the woman he murdered once went to school. Allison is contacted by someone who claims to be the killer, and he wants to give her an exclusive interview of his side of the story.
But is it really the killer, or someone else playing a sick joke? Along the way to answering that question, we find out that everyone seems to have secrets in this game, and in a savage bout of cat and mouse played through the basement level of the college library, all those secrets get spilled while Allison struggles to survive against a dangerous and cunning foe.
I read Dark Hours in print form, as a hardback from Crossroad Press. It's a very nice physical package as well, with a dynamite cover. The author, Sidney Williams, has written numerous novels, most of which I’ve read, and many short stories as well. I’ve never read any of his work that I didn’t enjoy, and I highly recommend Dark Hours.
Sidney Williams delivers suspenseful, dark reads time and again. This might be one of his best books yet.
Strong authorial voice. Excellent plot development.
Suspense on campus. This is a cool claustrophobic suspense novel with believable characters who do what human often do - make mistakes but make up for them. It's a tight, well-written book, I highly recommend.
Sidney Williams continues to amaze with "Dark Hours" My openly problem with the book was that it was over too fast. Tight, well-written story.
Sometimes we can put the past truly behind us. Other times, it traps us in a college library basement filled with booby traps and machete wielding maniacs.
Best to make sure all of your affairs are in order and keep your side of the street squeaky clean!
This story takes place over the course of a single evening and although it can be downright claustrophobic at times, the small cast of characters are fully developed, real people with rich, emotional backstories that compel you to turn page after page. Williams never allows them a moment to rest, ratcheting up the tension with every story beat while giving the reader a mystery that demands to be solved.
A classic page turner and highly recommended.
Imagine a slasher film with a believable premise and tight plotting, with backstory and layers of mystery, with characters who think and act rationally to try to save themselves, with a diabolical killer/stalker who has an actual method to his madness, and then ends with a satisfying, cathartic resolution. Not possible, you say. That's not what happens in a slasher film, you say. Yeah, ok. In a slasher film, you're probably right. The good news is this is not a film. It's a book, a very good book that respects all the tropes and formulas of the genre, but twists them just enough to give you a really, truly enjoyable read from start to finish.
